A HOME FOR LIFE

Home category

Buildings represent 40 % of all energy consumption. We spend 90 % of our time indoors, but 30 % of the building mass does not contribute to our health in a positive way.

The Danish companies VELUX and VELFAC have devised a strategy to take an active part in developing sustainable buildings. Part of this strategy is the project Home For Life.

Home For Life is the vision of VELUX and VELFAC for how to construct future buildings that reflect the balance between energy design and living factor, thus creating optimal indoor climate through a dynamic building envelope which is climate neutral

In order to find solutions to the challenges of climate change and living factor, there is a need to examine a future model that addresses these challenges as a holistic solution.

The aim of future construction is to consider the energy use during construction and in subsequent use of buildings, and to create an efficient building envelope with technology and design, without compromising the highest standards of indoor comfort and health – at the same time as producing the lowest possible climate impact by using renewable energy sources and implementing the concept of climate payback.

HOME FOR LIFE

ISSUE:

How can we optimise energy efficiency of a building by focusing on energy design and use of natural resources?

INTENT

Creating a model for building construction reflecting the balance between energy design and living factor, thus creating optimal indoor climate through a dynamic building envelope which is climate neutral.
